More and more

1- As time went by, we had some more problems.
2-As time went by, we had more problems.

3-As time went by, we had more and more problems.

Is there any real difference between the meanings of '1' and '2'?

Does '2' imply that the rate of having problems increased?

Gratefully,
Navi.
