Morass of mediocrity

Hi all.

Could someone please explain to me what the sentence
"Morass of mediocrity" means ?

Top answer

A morass is like a swamp. Mediocrity is the act of just staying in the "middle of the road" in your opinions, attitudes, and behaviour instead of having and acting upon strong convictions and principles. "Morass of mediocrity" expresses the idea that someone is stuck in a mentality of moral apathy, or that the moral apathy is disgusting, as a swamp is smelly.

I don't understand where you get "moral apathy" from at all.

The person is stuck being average. There is nothing outstanding, innovative, exciting, exceptional. Just "average" and nothing more.
