MONTHLY ONCE/ONCE IN A MONTH

Is there any difference between 'monthly once' and 'once in a month'? Which one is better?

Neither sounds natural to me. I'd just say 'once a month'.

I call my friend once a month.

You could also just say 'monthly', but 'once a month' is more common in speech.

Hi,

I'm reluctant to say things like this are grammatically incorrect, because sometimes there can be unusual contexts they fit into. But I'd say that almost always it is incorrect grammar. How's that?
