Monte wouldn’t have come tobe had Charlie not been such a lousy boyfriend

Hi, I'm having some problems with this really long and complicated sentence. I could really use some help with it.

Named after jazz guitar great Wes Montgomery, and in honor of his lifelong passion for the art form, Monte wouldn’t have come tobe had Charlie not been such a lousy boyfriend.

Charlie is the owner of Monte, which is a dog. Especially the second part, after "Monte wouldn't.." is really confusing for me. If someone could tell me what this means, I'd be really happy.

Thanks in advance,
Dilan.

Thank you so much, the "had" before Charlie, was the one that makes it harder.

Now everything is clear.

Thanks again,
