Monroe Doctrine

Hello, I'm a french student who is studying English. In my civilization class, we talked about the Monroe Doctrine, saying that another aspect to it was a geographic isolation. And then, the teacher said something that I couldn't understand, probably because of his American accent Emotion: sad Here is what I wrote :

"Another aspect of the Monroe doctrine is that there is a geographic isolation as well. There are 2 oceans separating the US from Europe and Asia and a lot of people felt that they were not connected to what’s going on. Overall they basically defined America’s interest as the.."

And I couldn't hear what he said at the end, so I'm asking if it exists a special term related to that or whatever... Thanks for you responses
