Molding

Is the molding done painting.

I'm asking the body shop if the molding has been painted. Can I say the above?

This seems a bit unnatural to my ear.

"Is the molding painting done?" works for me.

(I'll agree that this is sometimes heard, but it's strange when you think about it. You can't put a fork in it.)

Would you say, "Is the house paint done?" What would it mean?

Yeah, it probably won't pass the grammarian scrutiny but in a limited context, as in the body shop I think it is understood.
Assuming there are multiple repairs on the car and one of them is installing new body moldings which needs to match the color of the car. If you want to pass the grammar test, then we should say: Has the molding paint been yet
