Modus manifestandi

Carefully handed down from generation to generation, the modus manifestandi has become part of national lore.

I came across these words while reading a BBC report on French strikes. Could you please tell me the meaning of them? I googled but failed to find a meaning. I also wonder whether anyone have an idea as to where I can search for such words.

I'm just guessing here The modus manifestandi seems to describe the way in which these strikes manifest themselves (street riots, cars in flames etc, clashes with the police etc)
