Hi, I believe/think the words 'already' and 'almost' are adverbs and those usually modify verbs and adjectives. Now, I am going to makes some sentences with them and wish you would tell me if they are modifying the sentences or participles that follow them (thus indicating that participles are acting as adjectives).
The work is already/almost complete. -- this surely seems a case of adverbs modifying another adjective. The work is already/almost completed. -- ? The work has already been completed. -- ?
