Modification

Now we are very comfortable navigating around a computer and identifying things graphically by pointing and clicking without understanding how it works.

The book I have says 'by pointing and clicking' modifies 'identifying things graphically' only, and 'without understanding how it works' modifies both 'navigating around a computer' and 'identifying things graphically'.

Would you agree?

Which means 'by pointing and clicking' and 'without understanding how it works' modify both 'navigating around a computer' and 'identifying things graphically'. Good. Just as I thought.

Thanks, Clive!

Clive, you don't think 'graphically' modifies both 'navigating around a computer' and 'identifying things', or do you?

Hi,

The intended meaning of that is unclear to me.

I'd have to start guessing, or at least trying to figure out what yields the most sensible meaning.
