Modal verb "would"
Hi. Please tell me what type of use the following sentence with the modal verb "would" shows (I think the modal use can be categorized into types - I could be mistaken, though).
He asked Joe to let little John to have the toy. But Joe gave an excuse, and he would not let little John have the toy.
