Modal NEED

Therefore, it needs not to be preserved for any reason.

The underlined 'need' is not a modal, I suppose. Can I use the modal 'need' as in:

Therefore, it need not to be preserved for any reason.

Thanks

'need' acts as a modal with negative statements or in questions, when it is expressing necessity or obligation : Need I say more? I need not have worried. Therefore, it need not to(OMIT) be preserved for any reason.
