Mla style

Hey!

I have a question about the mla-style. If I use a source, but don't cite it word for word, but just the thougt, what do I have to write in parenthesis? just the name of the author and the page number like (Marwell 98) or also something else like (compare to Marwell 98) (see Marwell 98)? Thanks
