Mjust or could?

"Do you know where my book is?"" It must/could be on the desk. I saw it this morning. "

It could be either. In usage to give an idea of the difference:

It must be on the desk; I've checked everywhere else.
It could be on the desk; try checking there.

Must means the only option, whereas could means maybe. I'd probably go with could for this one.
