Mixed number

While using mixed numbers (fractions together with integers) as determiners, should we use "of" after the mixed number as in :

"I sold seven and five eighths (7 5/8) of a litre of crude oil."

or should it be " I sold seven and five eighths (7 5/8) litres of crude oil."

Top answer

They both make sense. If you are going to be talking about something less than one ('I sold five eighths'), then using the 'of' form would fit better, but even then you could use both.
