MIXED CONDITIONALS
"It was all because of the Berlin Wall. If it weren't for the Berlin Wall, Cecilia would never have found the letter, and then she wouldn't be sitting here, at the kitchen table, willing herself not to rip it open. "
As regards mixed conditionals, which are the time references in the IF clause and the two parts of the main clause?
Is it present-past-future?
Has the second part of the main clause the same time reference as the one used for narrating the story? (it was all because...)

If it weren't for the Berlin Wall -- present (I think the writer should have used past: 'hadn't been'.)
Cecilia would never have found the letter -- past
