Mixed Conditional

0 1. If you 01b00were02b00 to do the work and then deduct the cost(s) from the net re-sale price, chances are you 01b00won't02b00 come out ahead. (Is this a mixed conditional with 'won't' here? Where is should be 'wouldn't' ?) 02br
02br
00So is this a better sentence: 02br
002. If you 01b00were02b00 to do the work and then deduct the cost(s) from the net re-sale price, chances are you 01b00wouldn't02b00 come out ahead. 02br

0I don't believe in mixed conditionals, Jack. #1 should be 'if you do the work... you won't come out ahead' and #2 is good as you have stated it.

00For #1, even though I know that you won't come out a head for sure, 'won't' should be 'wouldn't'? 02br

0 "If you were to" goes together with "would" or "wouldn't". 02br

00However, some acceptable mixed conditionals stalk this earth, surely? Most grammar books list 'em after all. 0-

0 If I had studied grammar more carefully in school, I would now be able to explain conditionals to you better, Mr. M.! 02br

0I don't wanna hear it, I don't wanna see it, I don't wanna know about it. It's easier this way, Jim, WC. Mixed conditionals just give me a headache. 02br

0 I suppose the 3/2 conditional in CJ's post is only 'mixed' because the person (committee?) who formulated the types didn't create a type 4 (imaginary past > imaginary present). 02br
02br
00The unhappiest hybrids seem to be those that take one clause from a type 1 (real/immediate situations) and the other from a type 2 or 3 (imaginary situations). 02br

0 If I'm correct, you would have had such hybrids banned from the very beginning, Mr. P.! 02br
