Mistaking adjectives and adverbs

Well i often mistake some adjectives for adverbs and vise versa .I do understand that adjectives modify nouns and adverbs modify verbs ,or adjectives ,but i cant relate to that in a sentence . That means i can't understand how to SEE if it modifies the noun ,or the verb .
Any advice ?

Yes exactly .
When they are all piled up and you wonder if its an adjective ,or an adverb . Is it the first ,or the second and so on..
In order to understand them you need to know what are they modifying . But when i ask questions about it i still can't point the modifier's purpose . Like if it modifies a noun then it will be an adjective ,but to me it sounds as if it modifies everything
