When one is writing in an academic environment certain criteria must be taken into consideration. It is important to only use primary and secondary sources. The reasons for that are simple. The primary sources are the original data. This information is the first of its kind about that certain subject. Then secondary sources are a review of the original account from the primary source. These two sources are credited and very reliable. When trying to determine if a source is usable there are a few things I look for. I first look at where the information is coming from. I look to see if it’s from a scholarly type database. Then from there I also look at the dates of the publication. I try to find the most update information on that source.
The most important idea I found on the site was the section on how to prevent plagiarizing. Knowing how to prevent it can make the whole process of writing much easier. I think it is important to know how to do it correctly so that you can incorporate the citations as you write. It is good to do this so you do not get confused about what is citied and what is not. But also what should and shouldn’t be cited. I try to avoid plagiarism by citing everything I possibly can. After I write out the paper I will plug the writing into the prevention plagiarism sites to see if it detects any plagiarisms.
