Misjudge/rarefied

Hi

Someone talks about going to the club and says: Occasionally the joint would turn into a scene from an Elvis movie, because one of us would misjudge our drink and we'd end up on stage and have the whole beach singing along. It wasn't completely rarefied because our friends from Dublin were with us.

I'm not sure about two words. "misjudge" and "rarefied". I know what they mean, but I'm not sure if I understand what they mean in this context.

I have some trouble understanding too, but I suppose that he misjudged the strength of his drink and became drunk, but he was not alone onstage and/or he was not the only one to misjudge his drink (hence, the being drunk and onstage was not rarified ).
