Misfit

I have read in a book, 'his honesty is a total misfit in this corrupt society.' Is the sentence correct?

Top answer

The word "misfit" is, nowadays, invariably used to refer to a person. However, I see from the OED that it was, archaically, used to refer to a thing too. Maybe your sentence comes from an archaic text, or perhaps the author is employing a kind of personification (literary technique) to emphasize some point.
