Minority

-Joanna's experience of fitting in as a racial __ was casted onto the heroes in the two storylines.

The only word I can think of is minority. My friend has given me a piece of advice: a minority is a group, never one single person: Joanna. So minority is wrong. This friend has got a point there, but I'm not sure whether rejecting minority is too rash and harsh.

No. Outcast is wrong, and does not convey the meaning of minority. I hope a native English speaker will offer a little help.

You have already been offered a little help. I, a native speaker, cannot think of a better response, than teechr's especially as the original sentence appears not to have been written by a native speaker.
