Minds pronounced just as /mainz/ when reading quickly?

I'd call it more of a Z sound on the end. I seem to have a slight, almost imperceptible D in there when I say it, but it is much closer to fr?nz than fr?ndz.

Right. The transition from /n/ to /s/ or /z/ picks up a "sycophant" plosive /t/ or /d/ between the two, so it's often impossible in fast speech to say whether that plosive was part of the original word or not. It's usually obvious if the word is used in a sentence, however.
