NL888mindsRight. The transition from /n/ to /s/ or /z/ picks up a "sycophant" plosive /t/ or /d/ between the two, so it's often impossible in fast speech to say whether that plosive was part of the original word or not. It's usually obvious if the word is used in a sentence, however.
