Miles ahead of us/ourselves

I made up these sentences:
(1) We've got miles ahead of us.
(2) We are miles ahead of ourselves.

In (1), the context is, we have a long journey to go on. And in (2), we're progressing way too fast.

Can these examples used in their respective contexts?

If so, I wonder if we can use "ourselves" in (1) and "us" in (2), as follows:
(1') We've got miles ahead of ourselves.
(2') We are miles ahead of us.
