About 6.6 million people immigrated to the United States in the 1970s.

vs

About 6.6 million people emigrated to the United States in the 1970s.

vs.

About 6.6 million people migrated to the United States in the 1970s.


Can somebody please explain the difference in meaning between them? It's too confusing. Please explain in detail. Please help.
