Might vs. May

I might appear a serious type of person at first.
I may appear a serious type of person at first.

1. I believe both sentences above can be used for a present situation, but I wonder what is the difference between the sentences above?
2. I'm also not sure if 'appear a serious type...' is correct? Do you think it should be 'appear to be a serious type...' instead?

In addition to my questions earlier? Can I also say 'appear as a serious type...'? Thank you.

1-- As present, the main difference is that some native speakers habitually choose one while others choose the other.

2-- All seem awkward to me (including your 3rd option). I would write: I may/might appear (to be) a serious person at first.

I see the use of 'might' and 'may' depends on what a speaker has got used to.

OK, I will write as you've suggested. Thank you very much.
