One guys says: My forebears were quite disgustingly rich. The narrator adds:’He made the statement neither boastfully nor deprecatingly; he mightliave been saying that they were all bald.
I understand what the bolded sentence says, but somehow I see no connection between this sentence and the previous one? The guy said that his forebears we disgustingly rich and the narrator explains that he said that in a flat tone, and what about that last part?
Maybe it means that he said that such dispassionately like he was saying that they were bald and not disgustingly rich?
