"Hmm, I’m not so sure, but I heard the weatherman might be calling for rain."

I don't understand what you don't understand. Maybe the weatherman said it would rain; he cannot remember.

Thanks, but the major incomprehensible thing is, why is the progressive (might be calling) used instead of 'might call'.
