Vocabulary

midnight mission

Can it have some other meaning than a name of the organization that takes care of homeless people, because I found it written without capital letters in a sentence:

He met my wife in a midnight mission. (and it doesn't have any sexual conotations in the context)

I think the phrase "in a midnight mission" stems from World War Two when night bombing raids were made on Germany. Since then, it has come to mean any sort of manouevre carried out after dark. The place or organisation "Midnight Mission" is American and has no meaning/is unknown in the UK.

Thank you very much. I hope I'll get second opinion on this question. Because the context doesn't say what kind of mission it's about, so I'm still in the dark.

Has anyone ever heard for this expression?

Yes, in some mission that has to be accomplished at night - in the dark.
