Midnight

It's just past midnight of a Saturday evening.

Does the above mean 12'oclock at Saturday night? Then why Saturday evening should be added?

Top answer

Yes, JUST PAST midnight. Midnight is the point where the day changes, so strictly speaking "just past midnight" is in "the early hours" of the new day that is just starting. The addition of "of a Saturday evening" associates that time with the evening before, so strictly speaking it is early Sunday morning, but it could also be considered to be late Saturday evening.

  • If you remove EVENING, leaving "It's just past midnight of a Saturday", you could be misinterpreted as meaning "early on a Saturday MORNING".
