'mid - 2000s'

Hi all

I was just wondering how we would say 'mid-2000s' out loud? Do we just say 'mid two thousand' without the 's'?

Thanks

That's a rough one. I don't think there is any way. Of course, it depends on whether you're referring to the decade or the century.

There's always "mid-decade" and "mid-century," "The middle of the twenty-first century." "The middle of the first decade of the twenty-first century."

Just hang on for another couple

Thanks for replying, Avangi.

I was referring to the decade. It's almost unbelievable to think that we don't have an equivalent of 'the mid-1990s' for this decade. Those who will be referring to this decade are going to have to think something up.

There may be something I don't know about. I half-expected someone to come up with it.

Don't worry. I'll be keeping my ears open and see how people would refer to the middle of the first decade of this century. Emotion: smile

My guess now in August 2022 is that "mid-2000s" refers to the middle of the 21st century's first decade, because we have already lived throught the mid-2010s and are going into the mid-2020s, then, hopefully, there will be the mid-2030s and then on to the mid-2090s.

Unless...
