Hi
Although I am familiar with the meaning of microcosm, I am having trouble understanding the meaning of this sentence. Could you please help?
The traffic signal includes a microcosm of people who derive their daily livelihoods from it.
Thanks,
Tom
I think they want to say that there is a community (or group) of people whose income depends upon the signal. This is not a "microcosm" in its true sense of a representative group. Also, it is an awkward use of "includes" because a traffic signal cannot physically include a group of people.

So I would not use the word "includes" and I would probably skip "microcosm" as too pretentious.

The Traffic Signal [a film] includes a small universe of people who make a living at a fictitious intersection in Mumbai (by selling trinkets, etc., to drivers temporarily stopped at the traffic signal).
