Meticulous v.s scrupulous

How would you distinguish the actual usages of the two words?
For me, meticulous may be describing something "literal", like an actual action (ex:checking for medicine residue or something that requires really thorough examination) whereas "scrupulous" means being "discreet".
But I think scrupulous can always substitute for "meticulous."
