Metaphors in past tense

Just wondering if this sentence, mainly the last part, counted as a metaphor.

"When I first saw her, in my drowsy I-need-coffee state, I was certain she was a robot."

Here's the part that relates to what I'm asking about.

"I watched her, as she seemingly studied. When I first saw her, in my drowsy I-need-coffee state, I was certain she was a robot; raise the cup, take a

... she was a robot.

The person was not literally a robot.
We, the readers, are to take this to mean that she exhibited some of the characteristics of a robot.

It's not possible, in my opinion, to find a better example of a metaphor.

"When I first saw her, in my drowsy I-need-coffee state, I was certain that vague moving figure was a robot. Later, I learned, it was her."---------I sense this is NOT a metaphor.

"When I first saw her, in my drowsy I-need-coffee state, I was certain she was a robot." ------ But this IS a metaphor. Seems a bit inconsequent since this sentence means almost the same with the above one.
