You can have it like anything you want if you believe it.
Do you like school? Do you learn lots there? Do you meet many friends? Do you find it a challenge?

One thing is certain. You'll have to find a word or group of words that school definitely is not, not literally. That gives you things like:

School is a turtle.
School is a warehouse.
School is a carpenter without a saw.
School is a love affair that has gone wrong.

Now you have to separate out and throw away the ones that make no sense at all because you can't find anything in common between school and what you've called it. Those above might be considered metaphors - if you can find anything that makes sense in them - but they are all very bad ones because it's so hard to see what the writer might have been trying to say about school.

Now you have to rethink this in terms of what you associate with 'school'. What does school do for a student? How does it work? What does school do for the community it is found in? How does that work? There are many directions you can go in. With your metaphor you can suggest all sorts of things about school, both positive and negative.

School is an oven for baking minds. ??? School as a device for finishing some raw material.
School is a butterfly chrysalis. ??? School as a beginning from which something beautiful emerges.
School is a lion tamer. ??? School as a way of training children to be more well behaved.
School is a mirror of the community. ??? School as a replication of the values of the community.
School is a prison. ??? School as a student's punishment!
School is a set of hurdles. ??? School as a series of exams to be passed in order to win something.
School is a door that opens to a good job. ??? School as a way of entering a profession.

These are all bad metaphors, but note that only the best authors ever come up with really good ones. It takes a lot of thinking to come up with a good one.
