Metaphor

Regarding Trail of Tears. Were tears actually shed on a trail or is it metaphor?

Top answer

I'd say it's meant symbolically and methaphorically in the first place. Naturally, however, it was quite a tragic event, and many people lost their lives during the trek. So yes, probably many people mourned for the dead, and tears were shed out of grievous losses, but I don't think there are any similarities between this and Hans and Gretel.
