Please tell me if this is worded correctly

Context: Introductory talk of the organizer before the event. (The audience includes the teacher who will judge the performance and the participants. There will be three judges)

"I wish you all a fine morning. Today we are going to conduct the final round of the Poem Recitation competition in connection with the School Day celebrations. I humbly request every one of the teachers to take up the role of the judge for the competition."

I want to know why have takes the place conduct and why it is Poetry Recitation in place of Poem Recitation.
( My understanding with poetry recitation is poem refers to a work whereas poetry is the abstract noun referring to idea of writing in verse)
