Do Americans say merry christmas after christmas?

Is it strange to say merry christmas on Dec27?

What about Happy New Year?

Do people say Happy New Year for an instance on Jan7?

I don't say Merry Christmas after Christmas Day. I would wish someone a happy new year for the first week or so of the new year.

Other people may say "Merry Christmas" a little later than I do. And note that the Orthodox religions don't celebrate until January 7th (or is it the 6th?) so they have a longer period of time for that to work.
