Pretty much, but specifically "Did they think I was important enough to mention?".

Both of Lex's comments here refer to the article that Lionel is reading in the newspaper or magazine "Tomorrow's Planet".

"Did I merit a mention" is just a different way of saying "Was I mentioned [in the article]?". That is, "Did the journalist consider that I w
