Mention or distinction

In my company they say that a company got a SPECIAL MENTIONING or a SPECIAL MENTION in some professional contest .... Should it not be a SPECIAL DISTINCTION instead?

"Special mention" ("Honorable mention" in the US) means that they did not win first, second or third prize, but their entry to the contest was good enough to deserve some credit.

Thank you . To me "mention" sounded odd ad well as a noun and therefore, suggested distinction;) Next time I will ask the question here, on EnglishForward.com
