Me/myself

Greetings,

I had a brief discussion today about the following sentence:

I am committed to loving me.

It sounded wrong to me as I would say:

I am committed to loving myself.

Are both right or is one wrong?

Also, he said the use of myself is very rare in the English language, which seemed pretty weird to me.

Thanks
