Memory??

Hi.
I have some questions concerning memory system.(Atkinson and Shiffrin' Modal Model)
1- How is the information encoded in Short Term Memory? If it is in a verbal way, how can the visual and the haptic information be encoded? And if the environmental input covers both visual and auditory information how would it be processed in STM?
2-How does the information passes from STM to LTM?
Thank you in advance

If you checked the Wikipedia entry, you'll find that this is a very old model, much influenced by the computer technology of the time. Computers had small amounts of fast memory (or cache) and larger amounts of other kinds of slower storage (speed here, measured by the time it took the CPU to fetch and store data). Much engineering effort was expended on keeping recently- and frequently-used dat
