Hi,
We erected a statue in memory of the dead leader
We erected a statue to memorized the dead leader.

Do 'in memory of' and 'memorized' mean exactly the same in the two sentences?

Thanks.

Instead of memorized, the word you are looking for to mean "in memory of (someone or something)" is memorialize.

Hi Clive and Seattleguy,

Thank you both for your help.
Is there any subtle difference between them?

Hi,

Not really, except that I'd say #1 is more common.
