Just a question to throw out for everyone. Has anyone had any experience with Melody Jackson's Smart Girls which offers a wide range of services for screenwriters? The claim is that Using Smart Girls unique personalized analysis and query letter service, scripts have been read by the following: Warner Brothers; Fox Searchlight Films; Bette Midler/All Girls Prods.; Harvey Keitel; Oliver Stone; Skylark Films; Columbia Pictures Paramount Pictures; and Randa Haines BUT My question asks if ANYONE on this newsgroup has gone the Melody Jackson route to screenwriting fame and fortune?

I ran into these folks at the first Screenwriting Expo. I've never used them, because I look at it this way:

If you can't write your own **** LETTER, maybe trying to pursue a living as a writer may not be your best career choice.

Query letters ARE a different form of writing, but folks on this group provide pretty much all you need to know

One claim on her site I find highly dubious:

Query Letter Mailings to Producers and WGA Agents. Original, Personalized, With an 80% success rate since 1992.

There is no way she got 80% SALES on query letters, unless she doesn't send them out unless they are so brilliant the writer didn't need her anyway. If 80% success means an 80% request to read rate, that's slightly more believable but dubious (how could it be 80% from month to month?). Also, $1100 for 150agents/500producers names is OBSCENE. wrong. bad. You can get a trial subscription to the HCD, search for agents and producers, and do your own letters for almost a third of that cost. And while a bad query letter can scare someone off, it only takes a decently crafted query letter to make clear to most agents/producers whether the story is intriguing enough for them to say yes.

Her office is located where a lot of t.v. stuff goes on. Dunno if that means anything.

Finally, note that services for actors claims to have gotten actors jobs. 250 of them. NO SUCH CLAIM IS MADE. SHE NEVER CLAIMS TO HAVE PROVIDED LETTERS FOR A SINGLE SALE! I wouldn't do it, but like I said, I have no direct experience...
