Do meeting and conference have the same meaning and are they interchangeable?If not, what is the difference in meaning btw them?

A small additional comment.

Sometimes we use these words in an imprecise way. However, a 'conference' suggest a meeting/discussion between equals, eg a medical conference is where doctors come together to share experiences and to learn from each other.'
