Mediopassive

Since MEDIOPASSIVE (when you put an active form but a passive meaning) works in the following sentences "This book reads well / This spot cleans well with petril" can it work in this one: "Rules often change" instead of "Rules are often changed"? Something tells me that the latter is much better than the former...
