Topic: Some people think that good health is a basic human need, so the medical service should not be run by profit-making companies. Do you think the disadvantages of private health care outweigh the advantages?

It is true that some people are in favor of providing medical service by private sector. Although, there are some drawbacks in this view, I still contend that there are more advantages than disadvantages of private health care.

On the one hand, running the medical service by profit-making companies has some disadvantages. In terms of company’s profit is concerned, they usually aim at maximizing profits. Therefore, they easy to be tempted to manipulate the results of their researching to reach a high profit. There are some scandals by a result of products which were being introduced hurriedly after inadequate trials. Furthermore, due to chase their revenue, they tend to ignore some needy people. They sometime want to service rich people because these people are the main source of their income, while the expenditure on the medical service of poor people is really minimal.

However, there are justifiable reasons why privately-run health care institution should be made available. From a quality perspective, they provide faster service, unlike public health services where you must wait more hours and hours to be serviced. Therefore, it is useful for people who are suffering life-threatening conditions or who want to have a regular check-up without having enough time. Second, the government still receives benefits from this action. I mean instead of allocating too much resources to invest public health care, they can spend money on different fields such as education or environment.

In conclusion, although there are some drawbacks of medical services being provided by profit-making companies, I believe the advantages of health care outweigh the disadvantages.
