you gave me a hint it's a sci-fi term and here's what I finally found on andromeda wikia (it's a phrase from Andromeda series) :"Drifts are large space colonies that range in size."

Still I miss the meaning of "medic-drift" - some kind of a medical platform?. Any fans?
