Grammar

media singular or plural

The word italic_media_italic is commonly used as though it's singular. It's common to see things like the media is instead of the media are for example. Has this usage become so common it's generally considered to be idiomatic, and am I being a grammar nazi when I correct the incorrect usage?

Media is commonly used with a singular verb. Since I took three years of Latin at school plus one autumn term at Helsinki University, a singular verb still jars in my ears, though, and I prefer plural verbs with it. CB
