mean/meant

Hi,

When should I use mean or meant?

For example: "Although I know people wouldn't just say those things unless they meant them!"

Is "meant" used correctly here?

It sounds good to my ear, but I'm no expert on conditionals. ) Simple past and present - I meant what I said. I mean what I say.

It sounds good to my ear, but I'm no expert on conditionals. (I wouldn't start the sentence with "Although," unless it's conversational, and fits what preceded.)

Simple past and present - I meant what I said. I mean what I say.
