Meaningful

Hi.

It wasn't meaningful to keep him on life support any longer as he had been unresponsive for years, and it would take nothing short of a miracle to see him recover.

Is the word 'meaningful' okay here? Because I have seen it used in a lot of other contexts where it means significant or important, but can it also just mean that something makes sense or isn't pointless?

It doesn't sound right to me.

I'd probably say one of these:

It was futile to keep ...
It was pointless to keep ...
